Amethyst
Amethyst is a purple gemstone ranging in hue from rich & deep violets to light lavenders. Once as expensive as ruby and emerald until the 19th Century, when Brazil’s large deposits were discovered. Once believed to prevent intoxication—amethystos means “not drunk” in ancient Greek—Amethyst has been a popular gemstone across time.
Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for February and the gemstone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversaries.
